Students
Discovery Student Adventures are open to students ages 10 – 17. Each travel group is determined by age group (middle and high school) and has an average of 35-40 students and 4-8 teachers.
Students on our trips must have a natural curiosity about the world and have an open mind about learning new cultures and expanding their horizons.
Are you ready? We’re looking for students who will be active participants.
Depending on the itinerary, some of the more adventurous activities may include:
- Hiking 3-5 miles a day over uneven terrain in various weather conditions
- Exciting over-night experiences, including: camping, sleeping on ships, or even staying in a snow cave in New Zealand
- Mountain biking
- Rafting
- Swimming
- Snorkeling
In addition to being able to participate in the above activities, students are also asked to:
- Be a student in good academic standing
- Complete a confidential health form
Teachers
Discovery Student Adventures are more than just trips, and the educators who lead our programs are more than just chaperones. Four to eight teachers will lead a group with an average of 35-40 students.
Interested in leading a life-changing adventure? Participating teachers in our program meet the following criteria:
- Must be a current classroom teacher, grades 5-12
- Complete an in-depth application
- Pass a background check
- Provide two letters of recommendation. One from a supervisor and one from a colleague
- Pass comprehensive online safety training
- Receive certification in CPR & related travel safety training
Educators are also asked to actively participate with the students in all activities. Depending on itinerary, some of the more adventurous activities may include:
